Amanda Greenslade pens book to inspire children

Australian eBook Publisher will this winter publish the first in a series of children’s books by Amanda Greenslade about social issues they may encounter in their personal lives as well as bigger issues that children are having to come to terms with at a younger and younger age.

“Increasing exposure to the world’s problems—via the internet, social media and the news media—means that children are hearing about these big social issues like financial hardship, terrorism, capital punishment and earthquakes, whether we like it or not,” Greenslade says. “Stories are needed to help kids explore and cope with social issues, hopefully growing up to be the best people they can be and learn to make a difference in the world.”

Myra and the Magic Motorcycle: Book 1:
The Business in Bermuda is a beautifully illustrated reader for children aged 5–8that addresses the social issue offinancial inequality. Also an exciting read for younger children, The Business in Bermuda introduces us to the character Myra and the mysterious motorcycle she finds on her parents new property in Limestone Point, Australia.

With her courage and desire to help people Myra will embark on many wonderful journeys, learning about interpersonal skills, social skills and global social issues along the way.

“In every Myra Book, I will present a fun and exciting adventure that allows Myra to find out about somebody in need, and take action to help them. Myra and the Magic Motorcycle is intended to be to social issues like The Magic School Bus series has been to science.” Greenslade says.

“These stories are fun and interesting, while also teaching social skills and encouraging children toconsider other people in our world. While we don’t all have a magic motorcycle to help solve our problems, we do have the ability to care and be courageous in the face of other people’s struggles.”
