About the project
You, Kifaru and the Mud Problem is our Managing Director, Amanda Greenslade's, second children's book. It is an enhanced interactive epub where users can input a child's name so they become the hero of the story. This ebook was illustrated and designed entirely for tablets, with no print edition, hence it is the ideal size and layout for tablet-reading. It was written and designed by Amanda Greenslade, illustrated by Caitlin Morgan and published by Australian eBook Publisher. We released the enhanced edition on Apple and the non-enhanced edition on Google Play, Kobo and Amazon.
Over a year later the book that had been designed for ebook was laid out for print. Some design elements needed to be reworked to fit the altered format, which was square, as opposed to the ebook's iPad-sized design.
About the book
An African hippo gets his foot stuck in the mud, and lots of animals try to help, but even the biggest and strongest is unable. The hippo needs your help to get free.
Your child will delight in this enhanced ebook, which makes them the hero of the story (you input their name and gender in the beginning). The moral of the story is learning to use your intellect (and engineering knowledge) rather than brawn to solve this sloshy, mucky problem.
There's some information about the concept of leverage, a group game and a comprehension questionnaire at the end, which may interest educators.
