We first encountered Michelle Montebello in 2017 when she was looking for a proofread on her debut novel, Interwoven (Belle Hamilton #1). This began an editing journey that has lasted four years and I hope will continue well into the future.

We have been honoured to have helped Michelle with edits on all the Belle Hamilton books, as well as The Quarantine Station, Beautiful, Fragile, The Lost Letters of Playfair Street and, most recently, The Forever Place, which was released in July 2021. Michelle is a great author to work with, weaving romance and fantastic locations together sometimes in solely contemporary works, but also at times intermingled with historic events. She has written stories set both in contemporary Australia and in its past, as well as overseas.

Michelle also recognises the importance of not only a good edit, but a good relationship between author and editor. She knows we’ll use the best of our abilities to help her craft her work and won’t hesitate to point out any issues that we find in her stories, all of which serves to make her manuscripts stronger and more engaging.

Editing is an essential part of publishing a book and one that, sadly, many authors overlook, thinking it’s an optional extra, whereas a good edit can be the difference between success and failure. Authors are so close to their stories that it can be difficult for them to see things objectively, but a professional can help them adjust things to make the most of their story and point out plot problems as well as spelling, grammar and punctuation errors. A good editor can also help an author grow into their style with professional advice about the industry and guidance in crafting a story if needed.
