About the project
Anna approached us initially in February 2018 about the publication of The Way to Midnight. We created the print layout and the cover design and distributed it via print-on-demand. We also did the ebook conversion and Anna distributed the ebook herself.

About the book
It’s the 1930s in a remote mining town, deep in rainforest and mountains on an island off the bottom of Australia. This is home for the lively, fun-loving Zillah but sometimes it feels more like a cage. When Reg shows up, he brings the hope of a bigger life. She can’t know that the good-looking footballer brings something else altogether.

As their attachment grows, so does a sense of dread that things are not what they seem. Reg proposes but Zillah cannot marry him, not the least because her Irish Catholic mother disapproves. Yet she cannot let him go. Both are caught in the escalating tension as Reg loses his job and Zillah grapples with how much she’s willing to risk.

Desperate choices must be made, with shattering consequences for the two families and the entire town. Who must face the truth?

About the Author
From the time she could read, Anna Housego has been addicted to stories and words. For almost as long, her favourite question has been ‘why?’ It’s something she’s explored as a journalist, communications consultant, a specialist in developing stories that help people care about natural and cultural heritage, researcher of history and a writer. But the job as a pub roustabout in a remote outback town gave some of the best insights.

Anna lives as far south as you can get without needing polar protection, on the island of Tasmania. On the map, it’s the blip off the south-eastern corner of Australia but in her heart, it’s the place where she belongs and where her two grown-up children and their families live.
